LONDON—In the spirit of celebrating the legacy of a great dead Brit, Princes William and Harry have signed on long-dead '80s pop stars Duran Duran to play a concert for Princess Diana's charity next summer. Sharing the billing alongside the imploded supernova of Simon LeBon, John Taylor and friends, are formerly relevant Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music, and incongruously enough R&B hipster Pharrell Williams and Joss Stone, who was ten when the princess died in a Paris car crash. Of course, longtime queen and friend to the Princess, Sir Elton John will be there to make sure every other performer is upstaged.
"We want [the anniversary commemoration] to represent exactly what our mother would have wanted; how she was and all that sort of thing,” said William, emulating his mother's articulacy.
Indeed, the relative success of the aging superstars at last year's Live 8 concerts gives concert-goers hope that Duran Duran can still draw crowds to the renovated Wembley Stadium and raise huge amounts for the favored charities of the Princess.
Set to entertain Elton John is the English National Ballet, replete with fit young men in tights. According to one organizer, the Ballet was also chosen to honor the tradition of eating disorders long supported by the late Princess.
